Alright. To celebrate opening of my personal little shop, i introduce to you ''Gurren-Lagann''!
What is Gurren-Lagann you ask? Well, only the top mecha anime of the season. And from the looks of it, a lot better than the past projects Gainax has created or probably any other? This ofcourse, is stupid to just say out loud. So i should have fairly good reasons to back it up, right?
Let's start with point one!
The animation level. Usually, in gundam series and those alike. We see the common level of animation. Can't say its bad, and can't say its good. But we have to hand it to those people who create it.
Anyway. On to the subject at hand. With Gurren-Lagann, we witness a new sort of style. No, not 3D mixed with ordinary anime. I mean, come on. Thats just pathetic and ugly! In this anime, the backround and characters are all fluid and well done with awesome coloring to boot. Something that we dont see in the regular japanese cartoons.
Point two!
The plot ofcourse.
Imagine this. A world where humanity is driven to live underground, and large machines called Ganmen govern over the surface, restricting access to all humans. Sounds too Matrix for you? Well sorry to disapoint you, this anime is nowhere near that cliche!
Now, in an underground village. A young boy called Simon works as a digger. Nicknamed ''Tunnelhead-Simon''. To make matters more original, we add an older brother to our main character. Kamina. A hotblooded and spontaneous leader of the Gurren-Brigade! A little something he created in the village to keep the children entertained and always ready to cause mischeif.
Heading on. On one simple day, digging his way through the tons of dirt, Simon stumbles upon a small amulet in shape of a golden drill. For some reason, the drill begins to glow. And out of interest, Simon keeps it to himself. Only soon to find a large mechanical head burried a little further.
During this, a large ganmen falls through the ceiling of the village, along with the beutiful sharp-shooter Yoko. Who is currently hunting this large beast with her electrical rifle. Kamina, being the hotblooded and crazy man he is, challenges the demon, but is soon saved by Yoko from certain death.
After hiding in the tunnels with Simon, they soon stumble upon the large burried head of a mecha. Through a simple accident, the young lad activates the machine by placing the drill into the keyhole. Having control over the miniature-human-size-mecha. He leads his friends to victory over the giant mecha. And, escape towards the surface, where at the end of the episode, they are surrounded by many ganmen. Probably the comrades of the one Kamina, Simon and Yoko had slain.
Now, after reading all that. You're probably wondering. ''Oh, this sounds like yet another stupid mech-anime. I'll just go back to watching Naruto/Bleach/Lucky Star'' Or whatever you noobs watch >.> No offence to the noobs ofcourse. Well you are DEAD wrong. This is an anime, many can relate to aswell as come to love. With its various plot devices. This story can keep anyone entertained. And to quote Simon in one of his GAR moments...
''My drill will pierce the heavens themselves. And even if that hole becomes my grave. I SHALL BE VICTORIOUS!'' <- Simon. Episode 11.
NOTE: GAR is a meme created by an image board called 4chan.org. Basically, it a title given to the hotblooded, manly type characters. Though Simon doesnt look like it, he becomes one hell of a human >.<
